Letter: Immigration fight should be about law

There has been quite the debate amongst a lot of people regarding the new Arizona Immigration Bill 1070. With all media fervor and political rhetoric aside, what does U.S. Code Title 8, Section 1325 say?
“Any alien (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.”
Were the politicians you cast your vote for not sworn into office to uphold the law?
Whether you like it or not, illegal immigration is a national crisis. According to official estimates, the illegal immigration population ranges from 10 to 20 million. Now are we to believe that every one of them is anything other than hardworking? Well, the politicians and activists would have you believe that.
Nobody believes that all illegal immigrants are terrorizing this country, but the problem is that those who come here to work and those who come here to cause havoc are all using the same door.
Thirty percent of all illegal immigration consists of aliens (OTMs) from special-interest countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan and Yemen, all nations that sponsor terror. According to Congressional Intelligence reports, i.e. border threats, it has been confirmed that members of Hezbollah have crossed the border. Nine years after 9/11, our open borders remain a threat. Everyday OTMs are captured trying to cross the border, but the reality of it is how many are successful? For every two detained 10 slip by.
I don’t think they cross the border to come over and cut our grass. Also it’s ironic that if you bring up the idea that a few of the millions of people who’ve come here illegally might be terrorists you’re called a fearmonger or a racist. Actual terrorists must look at our open borders with a mix of anticipation and bewilderment. I’m sure al Qaeda and Hezbollah have already taken note of our messy southern border.
What is it going to take to have our politicians uphold the law and secure our borders, another 9/11 or worse?
