Letter: Rangely Museum thanks volunteers

The Rangely Museum’s Ice Cream Social and contest could not have happened without the help of all the volunteers, staff, entertainment and our special demonstrators. What a fun time we had. The demonstrators were new to the Ice Cream Social and a huge success. Kelvin White, Bill Zadra and Mike Zadra showed how to use Dutch ovens while cooking desserts to sample. Cobblers and ice cream, Wow! We send you a huge thank you and hope that you will consider making this an annual appointment here at the museum. Also, Jarrod Fiscus has learned how to knapp arrowheads and what a wonderful job he is doing. He was here to demonstrate how he does this. This is a great skill for a young man. Hopefully he will be back next year to show what all he has made.
Our entertainment this year was Dan Fiscus, Jarrod’s dad. He played the guitar and sang. He does a great job. Thank you so much for entertaining us. We also had Joyce Schaffer who also plays and sings. She is from the Loma area and performs patriotic songs on YouTube.
We couldn’t have a social without the contest. We had seven entries and all were really good. Now I know why the judges have such a hard time. Our third-place winner of a certificate and a check for $50 went to Julie Noyes with maple walnut. Our second-place winner of a certificate and a check for $75 went to Patti Tipton with strawberry cheesecake, and our first-place winner of a certificate and a check for $125 went to Phalon Osborn with peach pecan. Thank you to all of you. Be sure to keep practicing those recipes for next year.
A big thank you goes to all of our supporters and helpers. Bud Striegel for donating the $250 needed for the contest prizes, the Lodging Tax Board for the money needed to place our ads, Cheryl Robertson for donating the money necessary to buy the supplies needed and helping sell T-shirts. White River Market for donating the ice cream and Bill Hume for donating the ice for the coolers. We also want to thank Gordon Byers for donating coolers and making the arrangements with Joyce Schaffer. A big thank you also goes to Vicky Claybaugh, Diane Sizemore, Susan Dempsey, Krystal Thomas and Loyann Hayes for their help with serving ice cream, selling T-shirts and monitoring the buildings. A big thank you to our judges, who I’m sure enjoy their job and we appreciate them for remaining in the background. We also want to thank Billy Estes and his crew for all the work he does to get the park ready for our social.
