Dear Editor:
Recently, we experienced the beauty of being raised in a small town. The genuineness and kindness of the people of Meeker flows way beyond the lines of Rio Blanco County. Our ties to Meeker seem to enrich our lives again and again, no matter where we end up.
In August, our son Matt injured his knee wrestling. Using the military medical system where we currently live in Stuttgart, Germany, Matt had surgery in October with hopes of getting back to wrestling before the end of the season. Unfortunately, Matt experienced some problems and we were in a quandary about what to do for him.
Kevin Borchard, an orthopedic surgeon who grew up in Meeker and currently lives in Aviano, Italy, took a look at Matt and offered his advice and service.
He advised us to have surgery in Lakenheath, England, where Kevin and a good friend of his would take care of Matt. That is exactly what happened.
Kevin met us in England and both these amazing men operated on Matt’s knee. It was such a comfort to know our son was being taken care of by a hometown boy!
Kevin, his wife Hanna (Krueger), and their son Tristan, went above and beyond to get to England and give Matt the very best care.
We are so thankful. Our sincerest thanks to the Borchards, Kruegers and the people of Meeker for raising such wonderful kids!
