Dear Editor:
In response to Mr. Luzmoor’s letter, have you ever been on the fire department? Have you ever been on an ambulance call?
People on the fire board have.
Since 1933, the fire department has been run by people who want to protect our homes and property.
Yes, they might agree to disagree, but in the end they want to do what is best for Eastern Rio Blanco County.
The pension is set up so people will do the training, make the runs and do the extra work that makes a well-oiled team work.
The editor seems to feel the good old boys shouldn’t be running things. It was the good old boys who started this department 82 years ago and it’s another generation of good old boys who continue to show up in emergencies, taking time from their families to make sure this community is safe.
How may letters have you read that thank the Meeker Fire and Rescue team for showing up once on Highway 13 in the middle of the night at 4 degrees on icy roads to help people who have been in an accident?
So, as the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” My vote will go to the people who continue to serve this area the best they know and to spend our tax money in a way that will benefit us all.
I thank God for the good old boys. Be sure to vote on May 3.
Chris Strate
