Letter to the Editor: Mayor Halandras not as depicted in letter

Dear Editor:
First let me apologize for straying from the usual format of right vs. left battles, gay bashing, ebola and the Apocalypse.
In the Nov. 27 issue of the Rio Blanco Herald Times there is a letter to the editor titled “Opinions differ about marijuana” from Lawrence and Louise Courtright. This is not to debate the merits or shortcomings of marijuana except to say that I am an honorably discharged veteran, have raised a functional family, retired and am living on a small organic farm and have gateway-ed into nothing after 45 years of enjoying God’s herb.

What I do want to point out to Mr. Courtright, since he is so fond of quoting scripture, are the flaws in his reasoning and attitude as well as laying a few Bible quotes down that he seems to have discarded/forgotten/ ignored somewhere along the line.
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Who art thou that judges another man’s servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
It is not for me to judge another man’s life. I must judge, I must choose, I must spurn, purely for myself. For myself, alone.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.
Matthew 7:4: How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
Now there are hundreds of others but I guess you get the gist.
Concerning your personal attack against Mayor Regas Halandras, I’ve known the mayor and his family for just over 10 years. I know of no one who has done more for the community on a consistent basis for well over three decades.
He has served the community, friends and family with dedication and love in the way we all should.
I do not mean to embarrass the mayor here, as you so obviously intended to do. But the Regas Halandras I know was seen before daylight hit the streets of Meeker plowing snow out of my elderly neighbors’ driveway in the freezing cold, then driving away without being or wanting acknowledged for the act of kindness.
That, Mr. Courtright, is what a Christian is and does. What have you done? You sir, should be ashamed.

Former Meeker resident
