Dear Editor:
This is an open letter to Mr. Larry Steiner of Meeker. It is obvious that you spent a lot of time composing your recent letter to the Herald Times.
It may be true that marijuana is here to stay in Colorado, but that’s no reason to bring it into our small town. Just as water seeks its own level, our families have kept Meeker a decent place to live for decent people.
We have a small town full of good God-fearing families who want to keep Meeker clean and safe for raising our families. That’s why Meeker is not trying to “move into the 21st century.” I hope Meeker citizens will continue the fight to keep this garbage out of our town.
I fail to see how it would make Meeker a “destination” to have a pot shop. Why would people drive right through all those towns along I-70 and Steamboat ski resort to come to Meeker, to buy their pot? What else do you have in mind to attract them and draw them here? Gambling or maybe prostitution, or both?
Everyone knows that marijuana is a gateway drug and it was recently reported on Fox News that people who are experts on the subject say second-hand pot smoke is as harmful as cigarette smoke.
If you and Mr. Mayor Regus Hallandras want to make pot purchases more convenient for yourselves and your kind, now would be a good time to get out of Meeker and move to some cesspool more in tune with your lifestyle and moral values.
I thank God for those five preachers you talked about that attended the council meeting, and I hope that we will have a “revival” as you were overheard talking about.
There is a verse of scripture that says: “If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, will forgive their sins and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
To this I say, AMEN!
