Dear Editor:
I would like to remind the registered Republican voters of Rio Blanco County to participate in our precinct caucuses on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. In this day and age it is easy to believe that your vote doesn’t count but there is no easier expression of the will of the people than local caucus meetings. This is where the rubber meets the road in the political process of the American republic. Some will say there is no reason to attend a local caucus because it has no bearing on national policy. This is incorrect. At the precinct caucus you can cast a vote in an important straw poll to determine the Republican nominee for president. Also at the caucus, and then again at the county assembly (March 10 at 2 p.m. in the Colorado Room at the CNCC Rangely Campus Weiss Center) you can have input in the races for two county commissioner seats, the seat for State House District 57 comprised of Garfield, Rio Blanco, and Moffat Counties, as well as the seat for State Senate District 8. Please come and provide your perspective and input on these important races. Representatives from each precinct will be selected to attend the county and state assemblies where more and further-reaching policies will be discussed and decided upon. Through this process national policies are created and voted upon by local people at these meetings.
Caucus locations:
Precinct 1 and 2: Rangely Municipal Building
Precinct 3 and 4: County Extension Building, Meeker
Precinct 5: Rock School (Piceance Creek Community Center)
Don’t forget that the world is run by those who show up!
Thank you,
Logan Hill
Precinct 1 Republican Chairman
