Dear Editor:
Recently, lightning struck about 20 yards across the fence in our neighbor’s property towards the top of the hill where we have a small cabin. Many of our neighbors saw the strike and the subsequent burst of flame as the field began to burn, and they called 911.
Our Meeker Volunteer Fire Department’s response was immediate and effective and they contained the fire to less than half of one acre, thus saving a few structures of our neighbors and our cabin.
This timely action on their part reminds us of what a great community we have and how dedicated its volunteers are in our service.
Our sincere thanks go to the many people who noticed the lightning strike and took the time to call it in to our Meeker Volunteer Fire Department.
Martha and David Cole
