Dear Editor:
I am writing to address an oversight.
Thank you Beverly DeVore-Wedding for 26 years teaching math and science at Meeker High School, 17 years as girls’ and boys’ track coach (one girls’ track state title) and 15 years as girls’ and boys’ cross-county coach. Also, for serving on countless school district and building committees, working concessions and gates each year and for tutoring students after hours all these years.
Thank you for serving on Colorado Department of Education committees dealing with standards and curriculum, being in a nationwide teacher/mentor program, council member and past president of the Colorado Science Teachers Association and a member of the National Science Teachers Association Executive Committee.
Congratulations on being recruited by the University of Nebraska to obtain a doctorate degree and awarded a fellowship and assistantship for that pursuit.
You believe in teaching and learning. I should know, because I am your best friend and husband.
Roy A. Wedding
Meeker
Thank you, Roy Wedding, for this letter. You have said all the things I feel and hope people understand about a fabulous teacher, young lady, and my daughter. When you see students come back to her, and thank her for the help they received in her classes, you realize she has made a great impression on them and those around her.
Thank you Roy. I am humbled by your words. Also thank you Mom! You were my first teacher.
My students live in my heart now as well as when they were in my classroom. Even those who did not always see eye-to-eye with me (sometimes it was just an height issue; others philosophy differences, and sometimes we just hadn’t learned enough from each other), I learned from you, admired your convictions, and continue to honor your learning. My legacy truly is my students. Thank you students! Also thank you parents for sharing your children with me. I have been fortunate to work with wonderful colleagues, certified and classified, volunteer and salaried. Thank you for allowing me to learn from you as well.
Meeker is my home; I will return for visits these next few years while continuing my studies, and I look forward to hearing from any and all of you!
