The Meeker Classic Championship Sheepdog Trials Board held a “Souper-Volunteer” dinner for all of the 2013 volunteers on Jan. 19. Fun was had by all with a nice crowd of more than 80 volunteers in attendance, most being from Meeker but a few traveling from the Roaring Fork Valley and Cimmaron, Colo.
The evening featured homemade soups and a variety of door prizes including a guided fly-fishing float trip for two along the Grew Reef of the Platte River, generously donated by Charlie Cunningham of Casper, Wyo. Lots of volunteers went home with door prizes, but it was Red Leavitt’s lucky night, winning the fishing trip and a cash prize!
The five days of the Meeker Classic Championship Sheepdog Trials brings more than 6,000 visitors to the Meeker area for the annual event. For 28 years, the entire event is made possible by a team of local and out-of-town volunteers.
The volunteers perform a variety of duties including but not limited to distributing posters, set-up for the event, parking crew, ticket sales and working the concessions booth.
With more than 300 volunteers helping each year, the event runs smoothly, providing one of the best experiences for the handlers and a unforgettable experience for the spectators.
The Meeker Classic Championship Sheepdog Trials Board would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our volunteers. We really could not do it without you. Your time, dedication and generosity are greatly appreciated!
