This being my first letter to the editor, I wish I were writing a thank-you for the flowers or praise to our great community. Instead, I feel compelled to express my concern about the rampant dogs in our neighborhoods. My name is Ellen and you may have seen me walking my yellow lab in the five years that I’ve lived in Meeker. Recently, I started jogging with my son in a stroller and dog close behind. I don’t know if it’s because we cover more ground or that we are somehow offensive at a slightly faster pace, but in the past week, we have been viciously attacked by two separate pairs of venomous dogs. What’s the deal? Do you not know that you own horrible dogs? Is it too hard to keep the monsters in a fence? I am saddened and outraged that because of your inability to contain your aberrations to man’s best friend, I can no longer jog with my kind pooch in the town of Meeker.

Thanks Ellen for pointing out a continuing problem I have had more so the past 2-3 years. I do not jog with a dog nor pushing a stroller, but this past year and half the loose dogs during the early morning hours has put a damper on my morning exercise. I also walk to and from work and have to deal with loose dogs. I know understand why so few students walk home fro school anymore.
I do carry pepper spray–not the kinds purchased for muggers, etc. but the kind for bears. It is more powerful–strength of chemical and stronger spray. I have used it and will continue to use it as needed.
