Letter: Words don’t mean same thing to all

There has been quite the murmur of political opinions in the Rio Blanco Herald Times as of late. More recently of those who lean to the left. Let me recite Abraham Lincoln who said, “We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men’s labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name — liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names — liberty and tyranny.”
With that being said, that is exactly what is going on in America today.
First off, Mr. Halstead, sir, maybe you do not care how your tax dollars are spent by the fed or at the state level, but my wife and I do. It’s no secret tax money is used for abortion.
The disastrous Roe vs. Wade decision by the Supreme Court in 1973 thrust abortion-on-demand upon America creating a massive billion dollar killing industry. Every chance the abortion industry gets it attempts to loot federal tax dollars to fund the killing of unborn children through Medicaid, health plans for federal employees, women in federal prisons, or the U.N. population fund to support coercive abortions like that in communist China. Here in America 93 percent of all abortions occur for social reasons. Therefore we don’t want our tax dollars used in this manner.
Democrat-controlled Congress introduced H.R. 819 knowing the bill is nothing more than a shameful attempt to hand over a blank check to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Mrs. Pollock is not crazy. She’s entitled to her own opinion on how she doesn’t want her tax dollars spent, either on the state or federal level. And since you asked, Mr. Halstead, yes, Colorado does have a doctor by the name of Warren Hern in Boulder who has specialized in late-term abortions since its founding in 1975.
As for your next comment, sir, if you read in the King James Bible, Proverbs chapter 22 verse 6 it says: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
That verse is not inappropriate to say the least and neither is Mrs. Pollock’s comment. The embarrassment is yours and yours alone. If you want to compare a child to a dog that is your problem, sir. Have a great day.

  1. I so hesitate to respond to this, but find I must. As a “liberal” woman who believes a woman’s right to choose what to do with her body is not your business or the governments, I find your arguments confusing and disturbing. First-I have gone to Planned Parenthood for 30 years for many more procedures than abortion. They are there for women and their healthcare needs when there has been no one else. They are kind, compassionate and professional in every way. Two-Roe vs. Wade finally gave women the rights over their own body – as far as I know, the Federal government DOES NOT fund abortion!!! When a woman has an abortion, she must pay for it. How can you become so deranged about the gun issue and yet feel it is quite all right for laws to be made against allowing a woman to make decisions about her own body. Mr. Pollock, have you ever been faced with the choice of an unwanted pregnancy? There is absoslutely no way that you, as a man, have any idea what a woman faces at such a juncture in her life. Such a decision is totally and completely between the woman, her doctor and the God she believes in. I understand the old arguments of “saving the innocent” – really, how many children have you adopted to save from abortion? How many crack babies have you gone out of your way to take care of? How many young boy’s are you a Big Brother to, because they have parents who did not want them in the first place? Our goal, as stated by President Obama, should be to educate people so that these unwanted pregnancies do not occur in the first place. And finally, Third – women have been “terminating pregancies” from the first time they took an herb that did so. Why don’t you let women decided what is best for them and any children they decided to bare.
