To the Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District:
The Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District is pleased to report that it hosted a Yellow Jacket Water Storage Feasibility Study Phase I Public meeting on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Craig Ullman with the Applegate Group, Inc. and Dave Merritt with HDR Inc., presented an outline of the study including initial findings and statistical information regarding the conditional water storage sites under Phase I review. Several Yellow Jacket Board members were in attendance along with four members of the public. The Phase I final report will be released in July 2011, and will recommend further analysis of approximately three-water storage rights. Phase II of the study is expected to conclude in the late fall 2011 with the final Phase III recommendations in spring 2012.
The Yellow Jacket Board values and encourages public comment and participation and the comments of the public received during the June 2 meeting were the type of community participation that is essential to this process. The Phase 1 study and public meeting process has already provided the board with useful information to assist the board in making responsible and informed decisions regarding the district’s water rights. The YJ Study will give direction to the district regarding the management and development of district water rights. The district board will be meeting several times in the next few months to review additional study results and recommendations.
The district is in the process of putting together a written summary of the Phase I public meeting which will be available for the public next few weeks. Please contact Trina Zagar-Brown, Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District Secretary-Counsel at (970)878-5065 or [email protected] to request a written summary of the Phase I analysis.
