A big thank you goes out to all of the 2012 Range Call Parade participants. Thank you for taking the time to join our parade and make it one of the best ever. Thank you Gary Zellers for doing an excellent job announcing, Merle and Verna Mullet from Montrose, Colo., for coming up to judge our parade, Ron Willey, Bill Jordan and all of the people who helped make the parade run smoothly. Thank you, Meeker Hotel for allowing us to use your balcony for our announcer and judges.

Proposed 28th Amendment
Dear Editor:
No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the U.S. military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get 50 percent of their pay on retirement. Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the capitol, protected by these same men and women, and receive full pay on retirement after serving only one term. It just does not make any sense!
This is one proposal that really should be passed around.
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: “Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the senators and/or representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the senators and/or representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice, and these brave soldiers have given you that right!

Fire Dept. praised
Dear Editor:
I would like to say a big thank you and praise to the Meeker Volunteer Fire Department, the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and the local BLM fire crew for their fast and prompt response to a lightning strike fire on County Road 26. I feel that possibly we could have lost thousands of acres of rangeland if not for their quick response. As we all know, at the right time, rangeland fires can be a good thing but during times like these they can be devastating.
Again I can not thank you guys enough for all that you do.

My two cents
Dear Editor:
I been thinkin’ a little about some stuff like life in general … whoops, wrong page. What I meant to say is how about how R&T is doing. Maybe that’s not it either. Anyway I’d like to thank the New York Times and everyone else involved for spending the time and effort to try and help everyone in Meeker understand that we are choking our community and if it doesn’t change it will die on the vine.
Oh, by the way my name is Randy Ridgeway. My wife Teresa and I and three sons along with Jake and Calista Hammil own R&T Oilfield Services. Thanks DJ for representing us so well and hopefully expressing to the community who we really are and what our goal really is. DJ – Hillary – Tanner – Macey – Madison Ridgeway. DJ was born in Meeker on Dec. 19, 1981. He also celebrated his 30th birthday here. He and his family want to be here for a real long time.
Teresa and I were married up Miller Creek in the summer of ‘79. June 21, 1979, to be exact. Anyway, we all want to be here for a real long time. Why not? We’ve all been here for a real long time.
I want to especially thank our East Coast operations: Jason, Nessa, Dayton and Kaden Ridgeway. And Danny, Ashley and Kyler Ridgeway who would also really like to be here, God bless you. For all you gave to support R&T without the Marcellus shale play we would all be done. And I really want to thank you a lot for that. The sad thing is it’s in our back yard and this is where we all want to be so why can’t we work here? Why can’t we start new business here? Why doesn’t anyone here with a voice want to help people to accomplish their goals in the best interest of the community? That’s a whole ‘nother story in itself. Either way everyone you talk to says, “Well, it’s always been that way and it will always be that way.” I don’t buy it. We came back here because we love it here and it’s the best place in the world to be. I really wish I could be in Meeker more to help more and hopefully some day soon I can.
This is your town, this is your community and if you want to be here it’s time for some long overdue change in the best interest of everyone or Meeker will indeed die on the vine. God bless you and God bless the White River valley.

Choose life, please
Dear Editor:
For some folks the recent Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of the “Affordable Healthcare for America Act” has cast a sort of pall over the Fourth of July celebrations and understandably so. For while the individual mandate did not stand under the Interstate Commerce Clause of the Constitution it is still the case that our federal government is now not only larger, but also in a much better position to intrude into the personal lives and freedoms of citizens than was the case before the ruling. Indeed, it seems that the federal government has been, for quite some time, intent on dismantling the freedoms and rights guaranteed by our constitution. In addition, it seems that they have found a willing ally in the court, which itself has a long history of disregard for the rights and liberties of individuals. Dred Scott v. Sanford comes to mind.
Yet there is another decision by the court against which the recent ruling and even Dred Scott pale. I am thinking now of Roe v. Wade, a decision that has led to the slaughter of 5.5 million Americans and brought shame upon our country. Therefore, I wonder, why all the uproar over the recent ruling? Why should we be surprised when the Supreme Court, or any court for that matter, rules in a way that is completely consistent with the worldview of most Americans, even Christians?
It is indeed a horrendous state of affairs, yet it is not without remedy.
This November, Coloradans will once again be given the opportunity to remedy this holocaust and thereby restore humanity and freedom to our country through the instrument of The Colorado Personhood Amendment. A vote for it is a choice for life. Someone somewhere is counting on you to make the right choice.
Choose life, please.
