Visitors displeased with Kenney changes
Dear Editor:
Folks, for the past three years my, my wife and our children of three have come to your lake (reservoir) in Rangely three times (seven days at a time) during the summer to camp and boat.
On the evening of May 26, our family arrived at your campgrounds as usual with the intention of staying for seven days of the Memorial weekend.
We were absolutely astounded with what you have done to your campgrounds. It is obvious that whoever planned the new camping area has not or ever been a camper. I need to remind someone that now nearly all trailers, motor homes and fifth wheels come with “slide outs.” Your designs for parking units are not feasible for campers. I’d be sleeping almost in my neighbor’s bedroom or eating with them in my kitchen. Everyone is on top of each other: fireplaces, tables, boat parking area. It’s obvious to us your “new” facility was designed by your money makers, which is understandable up to a point. But in doing so, it should still be designed for the campers — they are paying the money! You’ve ruined a great family camping area. Be reminded that yours is still a PRIMITIVE campground that you are CHARGING for. Remember, you have no running water, hook ups or even handicap areas! And your little restroom sure needs some TLC!
Our intention was to make our thoughts known to the elderly couple that was always out there when we camped, maybe they were hosts, maybe not, however, they were gone. Too bad, they were nice folks and accommodating.
Being as they were gone, we decided to voice our opinion through your local paper. Be it known that when we come, we bring friends from Vernal, Utah, and we all buy our groceries, gas, ice and liquor in your town for the seven days we’re there. We heard we can now get our propane in town.
We know we are just little folks, so our opinion probably won’t matter to most, but we spent good money in your town, three times a summer. We are moving on to Utah to their primitive areas that don’t CHARGE and give Vernal our money.

Difference between Madoff and feds
Dear Editor:
Why did Bernie Madoff go to prison? To make it simple, he talked people into investing with him. Trouble was, he didn’t invest their money. As time rolled on he simply took the money from the new investors to pay off the old investors. Finally there were too many old investors and not enough money from new investors coming in to keep the payments going.
Next thing you know Madoff is one of the most hated men in America and he is off to jail. Some of you know this. But not enough of you. Madoff did to his investors what the government has been doing to us for more than 70 years with Social Security. There is no meaningful difference between the two schemes, except that one was operated by a private individual who is now in jail, and the other is operated by politicians who enjoy perks, privileges and status in spite of their actions.
Do you need a side-by-side comparison, here? Well here’s a nifty little comparison.
Bernie Madoff (SS)
Takes money from investors with the promise that the money will be invested and made available to them later. Social Security takes money from wage earners with the promise that the money will be invested in a “Trust Fund” (Lock Box) and made available later.
Instead of investing the money Madoff spends it on nice homes in the Hamptons and yachts. Instead of depositing money in a Trust Fund the politicians transfer it to the General Revenue Fund and use it for general spending and vote buying.
When the time comes to pay the investors back Madoff simply uses some of the new funds from newer investors to pay back the older investors. When benefits for older investors become due the politicians pay them with money taken from younger and newer wage earners to pay the older geezers.
When Madoff’s scheme is discovered all hell breaks loose. New investors won’t give him any more cash. When Social Security runs out of money the politicians try to force the taxpayers to send them some more; or they cancel S/S to all those who paid into it.
Bernie Madoff is in jail. Politicians remain in Washington … with fat medical and retirement benefits.

Resident doesn’t want to live elsewhere
Dear Editor:
My relatives have asked me why I live in Rangely, “armpit of Colorado.” The reason is the people who live here. Starting with my neighbors, who have mowed my lawns, cleaned my roof in the winter, plowed my drive, taken me to the hospital, even in Grand Junction, help me hang wall coverings, the list goes on and on. They even get upset when I choose to hire someone to do any of these things (I do this so as not to wear out my welcome).
The rest of the town ain’t so bad either. Friends all over town help me out. Thanks to all of you. You cannot know how much it means to me and the quality of my life. I wouldn’t even consider living elsewhere.
