MHS Homecoming
Dear Editor:
I am writing to encourage every member in this community to support the Meeker Cowboys in their homecoming football game against Paonia this Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Starbuck Stadium.
The Cowboys are coming off a very impressive road win last Friday, beating Lake County 21-6 in Leadville in our first conference game. The game against Paonia is very crucial and our team needs all the support we can get. These young men have worked extremely hard over the past few months and we need to let them hear us this Friday night.
So I ask all of you in this community — parents, students, teachers, former Cowboy athletes (I know there are a lot of you out there), friends, relatives, business owners — everybody. Let’s pack Starbuck Stadium this Friday night! I don’t want to see one empty seat! Support this team from the opening kickoff until the final whistle of the game. Bring your blankets and friends and get ready for an amazing game! We have some absolutely incredible athletes this year, and I guarantee they will put on a show for you.
I would like to personally thank every business and community member who supported the Cowboy Kickoff Classic this year. We could not have done it without you. Thank you to everyone who has supported the football program up to this point. Get ready for an amazing game! Go Cowboys!

The Fair Tax
Dear Editor:
There is one thing that would, for certain, jump start the U.S. economy and create many jobs. Expect career politicians and congressional lobbyists to resist it mightily. The reason: its adoption would adversely affect all their pocketbooks and seriously diminish Congress’s power over and control of American citizens. It’s called The Fair Tax.
The Fair Tax is a “consumption” tax; a national sales tax. The IRS would be annihilated; nobody pays income tax anymore and no payroll taxes paid by businesses or employees. Every earner keeps all they have earned! The price of all American made goods would drop by an estimated 22 percent. That is the figure researchers estimate the income tax and the payroll taxes add to the cost of everything produced in America.
The national sales tax rate would be 23 percent. So there’s no increase in cost-of-living for Americans.
But economists estimate that in the first year after the Fair Tax becomes law, the economy will grow more than 10 percent, exports will grow by 26 percent and capital spending will increase over 70 percent. There are many additional advantages of the Fair Tax!
Read The Fair Tax Book to learn much more. Then ask your congressional candidates about The FairTax and insist they support it!
