MEEKER I Meeker insurance agent and father of two K-12 Meeker students, Kevin Amack, has now been joined by three additional candidates for the Meeker Board of Education (BOE) four-year terms.
Current board member and former band and music instructor Tom Allen, former Meeker High School math teacher Scott Aldridge, and former high school science and math teacher, Dr. Robert Dorsett, have each turned in qualified petitions.
Janelle Urista, the election official for the Meeker School District, reports that there are two additional petitions out for the three four-year terms open on the board. If those candidate petitions qualify, there would then be at least six candidates for those three seats. BOE candidates will be on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Urista also reported that unlike last week, when there were none, there are now three petitions out for the one two-year term available.
Current board member and district parent Mindy Burke, rancher and parent Davey Smith and BLM employee Richard Brooks have each confirmed that they are circulating a petition for the two-year position.
Persons wishing to qualify as candidates must have their petitions signed by at least 25 qualified electors and turned in to Urista at the district office by 5 p.m. today. State law requires petitions be turned in by Aug. 28, but the district office is closed on Friday.
