RANGELY I Twenty-three, two-man teams gathered at Cedar Ridges Golf Course in Rangely on Saturday to play in the 27-hole, two-man tournament where three different formats are used.

The field was divided into three flights, but the game was the same for all. The first nine holes were played in a scramble format, followed by best ball on the second nine and finished by alternating shots on the final nine.
“The course played quick and the field was competitive, top to bottom,” Chris Hejl, the Cedar Ridges clubhouse manager said. Hejl and his partner, Keenan Harvey, won the third flight with a gross score of 113.
The best golfers on the course were from Vernal, Utah. Blake Murray and Dean Gibbs won the championship flight with a nine-under-par 99, giving Kirk Blaszyk and Craig Nichols, both of Glenwood Springs, second place, four shots back.
Rangely’s Clark Edwards continued his winning ways, when he teamed up with Dennis Rohn to turn in the best net score (96), four ahead of Rifle’s Roger Walters and Rick Peterson.
The best golfers in the second flight were from Glenwood Springs. Roland and Roger Gauthier won the flight with a 104. John Lee and Jeff Otto, also from Glenwood Springs, had the second-low-net score.
Three teams tied for the low-net score in the second flight, including Rangely’s Casey Ducy and Brandon Halcomb of Grand Junction, Meeker’s J.C. Watt and Willy Theos, along with Mike Eckenrod and Mike Smith of Grand Junction, all turning in a net score of 99.
Rangely’s Marc Blake and Bryan MacKay were four shots behind Hejl and Harvey in the third flight. Jon and Caleb Templeton had the low-net score (98) in the third flight, giving Ryan Kennedy and Jason Cox second.
The Couples Classic will be played Saturday and Sunday at Cedar Ridges Golf Course.
