MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker United Methodist Church’s Elbert Hall.
MACC has initiated a campaign to renovate and restore the Meeker High School auditorium and performing arts center in cooperation with and on behalf of the Meeker School District and Meeker High School.
The obsolete technology of the auditorium is largely the original 1955 wiring for stage lighting. The cable winch and batten systems are similarly outmoded and in need of replacement.
Community participation is sought to help advance and sustain this campaign, which will benefit not only students, faculty and staff, but community groups that utilize the auditorium as well.
MACC is joining with the Rio Blanco County Historical Society in supporting the nomination by History Colorado of the town Meeker historic area as a State of Colorado Historic District and as a National Park Service National Historic District under the U.S. Interior Department. This effort will stimulate heritage and agri-tourism for Rio Blanco County.
MACC believes such community-based endeavors have the greatest potential for enhancing the economy of Meeker and Rio Blanco County.
Public help is needed. MACC is providing high quality performing arts entertainment for the Meeker community but cannot do it alone. If you want to see these great opportunities in your home town, folks are asked to get involved, support and participate in this worthwhile effort.
Youth, adults and seniors are welcome and invited to participate and help plan performing and fine arts activities such as dinner theaters, performing arts outreach seminars, support of school and ERBM Recreation and Parks District drama programs, community events, program planning and much more.
Possible grant funding from philanthropic foundations will be discussed along with performing and fine arts venue discussions.
