MACC seeks youth, adult participation

MEEKER I Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) president Gary Zellers announced that MACC will meet on Monday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker United Methodist Church annex at Eighth and Park streets.
This meeting will review the recommendations which were facilitated April 2 by Colorado Creative Industries peer assistance network consultant Nancy Kramer of Steamboat Springs.
As a result of recent grants awarded to MACC, it will be possible to develop a variety of proposed performing arts programs in the near future. An immediate goal is scheduling a summer dinner theater production and forming a community performing arts production organization similar to Curtain Call, which presented many plays and musicals each year between the 1950s and 1970s and involved both youth and adult performers and technical crews.
Youth and adult community members interested in being involved in community theater and other performing arts productions are urged to attend this meeting and share their ideas about possible productions and involvement. Whether you are experienced or just want to learn more about performing arts, you are most welcome to attend. MACC needs to hear from you personally to learn what your interests and preferences are. Please attend the meeting or otherwise call or send your suggestions to MACC officers at the e-mail address or phone number listed below.
Other areas of focus will include possible restoration of the popular community concert series that were presented periodically throughout the year, bringing noted artists in many disciplines to the community for cultural enrichment. Additional programs may include the popular cowboy poetry series, the “Meeker’s Got Talent” shows, and much more. Your input and involvement are needed to make these exciting events happen. Fine arts shows and exhibits are also being encouraged. Meeker has a plethora of distinguished artists whose works are nationally renowned.
MACC is also partnering with the Rio Blanco County Historical Society and the Rio Blanco County Pioneers Association’s Oldtimers’ Reunion to offer the “Capturing Our Culture” oral history interviews and video taping on June 2 at the Fairfield Center.
A prime interest is creating a performing and fine arts venue for the community through formation of a creative district which will involve individuals, community organizations, businesses, government and special districts, et al, and can create revenue and employment which may improve the economy of the community. Creative Industries are the fifth largest economic engine in Colorado.
All friends of the performing and fine arts and cultural organizations are encouraged to attend and participate in this community-based coalition effort to enhance enjoyment of these vital enrichment opportunities for the youth and adults of the Meeker community.
Youth members are especially encouraged to participate. Refreshments will be served.
