MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC), in cooperation with the ERBM Recreation and Parks District and Meeker High School, is sponsoring a performing arts drama outreach program with Professor Timothy Pinnow, the department chair of the Colorado Mesa University’s theater arts department.
One seminar was held in Meeker on Feb. 8. Next, the Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe No. 1284 students as well as the Recreation District’s Center Stage Youth Theatrical Group students will travel to Grand Junction on March 1 to participate in acting and musical arts production seminars, tour the Robinson Theater backstage production areas and meet the cast and crew members of the musical “Legally Blonde,” which students will attend after the tours and seminar.
The next student performing arts outreach experience will include a trip to Denver to see the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Temple Buell Theater production and other highlights, including the Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the IMAX theater and the Gates Planetarium.
Students will have an opportunity to join a Venturing Crew for high school students and an Explorer Club for middle school students specializing in performing arts as a part of the outreach experience.
Creative industries are the fifth largest economic development opportunity in Colorado and they offer performing arts and technical production educational opportunities for those students wishing to pursue performing and fine arts careers.
