MACC to host enrichment seminars

MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) has begun a project to host guest presenters from area higher education performing and fine arts departments which will be made available to local youth and adults interested in learning about and improving their skills and knowledge for performing arts and fine arts. This may be implemented as a part of other cooperative efforts with other local organizations and performing arts presentations. Topics may include (but not be limited to) introduction to theatre, acting methods, improvisational acting, introduction to technical theatre production, musical theatre production, directing, and other topics that students may wish to learn about. More information on this project will be announced in the near future.
MACC will be pursuing the implementation to nominate Meeker for designation as a creative district from the State of Colorado Office of Economic Development, Division of Creative Industries. This designation will be sought through a community-based coalition effort of the local economic development task force consisting of local businesses, organizations, individuals and special districts, which is being coordinated by the Meeker Chamber of Commerce. Creative industries comprise the fifth largest economic engine in the state of Colorado and can be a source of income and employment opportunities, and for visitor participation by tourists benefitting businesses, to improve the local economy. Many Colorado communities have outstanding performing and fine arts programs that are a source of attraction for visitors that patronize the cultural and performing arts opportunities of those communities (e.g., Creede Repertory Theatre, Grand Junction performing arts, Steamboat Springs, Grand Lake, et al).
MACC will join with the ERBM Recreation and Parks District to present a dinner theatre on Feb. 16 at the Fairfield Center with a delightful presentation starring local high school thespians and community members. Other productions are planned later this year.
The Meeker Palooza band event may be presented in late summer with details to be announced later.
The “Paint the Wall” mural contest is progressing with proposals for design still being sought. Anyone wishing to submit a design proposal should contact Shepherd’s Office Outfitters’ owners Chad and Jeanette Shepherd for more details.
Funding to support these and other cultural and performing arts offerings is being sought through corporate and business or individual grants and donations, with tiers of donation level categorized memberships.
