RBC I At approximately 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 19, the Rangely Police Department responded to a call of a possible burglary and assault that evolved into an incident in which one man allegedly shot another.
The incident took place at the Buck ‘n’ Bull RV Camper Park, located just east of Rangely. The initial investigation revealed an injured man had wandered into a neighbor’s residence and then left the residence, Rangely Police Lt. Roy Kinney said.
According to Kinney, Rangely police and Rio Blanco County sheriff’s deputies responded and were able to locate the victim, who was found bleeding from multiple head wounds.
The victim was reported as being shot by an unknown assailant, but the wounds were not fatal.
A suspect was later identified and taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Rio Blanco County Jail on charges of first-degree assault, Kinney said. The names of the man arrested or the alleged shooting victim have not been released.
The Rangely Police Department, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and district attorney’s investigative unit are continuing the investigation and will release further information as it becomes available, Kinney said.
