For a third time in his career, local senior golfer Donnie McPherson made a hole-in-one.
McPherson’s most recent ace came on the final par-three of the 27-hole, two-man scramble Saturday, May 16 at the Meeker Golf Course.
“I’m a happy camper,” McPherson said after the annual tournament and giving the bartender instructions to buy the customary round of drinks for those in attendance, which was 60 golfers.
McPherson won $100 for the closest to the pin contest on No. 2 (11th hole of the tournament), then won another $100 for closest to the pin on No. 7 (25th hole of the tournament), with an ace.
“The best part was Fred Starr and Larry Shults being at the hole in front of us and seeing it,” McPherson said of his feat.
McPherson has also recorded aces in Arizona and another one several years ago on his home course.
“Not bad for an old-timer, who didn’t start golfing until I was 41,” McPherson said.
