Meeker Arts and Cultural Council sets programs

MACC president Gary Zellers announced MACC will meet on Monday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker United Methodist Church Annex at 8th and Park streets.
The following MACC events are now scheduled and/or in the planning stages:
• “Capturing our Culture” Rio Blanco County Historical Society oral history interviews are being supported by MACC in cooperation with the Rio Blanco County Pioneers Association on June 2 at the Old Timer’s Centennial Reunion.
• Meeker Pageant is being supported by MACC as part of the Range Call Celebration on July 4 and will be seeking pageant players and tech crew members for this great annual event.
• Dinner Theatre Production is tentatively scheduled for July 28 at a venue to be announced for the Community and should be a hilarious and very enjoyable event. Details will be provided soon for production, venue, casting and recruiting of technical staff, and is open to both youth and adults wishing to participate. Please contact Gary Zellers at the below address for more information.
• “Meekerpalooza” Band event will be scheduled in late summer, again with details and promotions to follow. This event is being coordinated by Matt Holliday, MACC vice president.
• Community Theatre [similar to Curtain Call which presented many plays and musicals each year between the 1950s and 1970s] for both youth and adult performers and technical crews will be launched for year around productions following the Dinner Theatre show in July.
Youth and adult community members interested in being involved in community theatre and other performing and fine arts productions, are encouraged to attend this meeting and share your ideas about possible productions and your involvement. Whether you are experienced or just want to learn more about performing arts you are most welcome. MACC needs to hear from you personally to learn what your interests and preferences are. Please attend the meeting or otherwise call or send your suggestions to MACC officers at the e-mail and phone listed below.
Other areas of focus will include possible restoration of the popular Community Concerts series that were presented periodically throughout the year bringing noted artists in many disciplines to the community for cultural enrichment. Additional programs may include the popular cowboy poet’s series. The Meeker’s got talent shows, and much more. Your input and involvement are needed to make these exciting events happen. Fine arts shows and exhibits are also being encouraged. Meeker has a plethora of distinguished artists whose works are nationally renowned.
A prime interest is creating a performing and fine arts venue for the community through formation of a Colorado Creative Industries Creative District which will involve individuals, community organizations, businesses, government and special districts, et al, and can create revenue and employment which may improve the economy of the community. Creative Industries are the fifth largest economic engine in Colorado. This effort is being coordinated by Vanessa Trout.
All friends of the performing and fine arts and cultural organizations are encouraged to attend and participate in this community-based coalition effort to enhance enjoyment of these vital enrichment opportunities for the youth and adults of the Meeker community.
As with any arts and cultural organization, financial support and fund-raising are always necessary and any interested individuals, organizations, corporations and philanthropic foundations are encouraged to participate and help support these programs for the enrichment of the community.
Youth members are especially encouraged to participate.
Refreshments will be served.
To join the MACC e-mail list serve, please send your e-mail address and name to [email protected] and you will receive postings of MACC activities and meetings.
