Meeker athletes set personal bests, qualify for state

MEEKER — This past weekend, Meeker track and field athletes traveled to Grand Junction for a two-day meet for their last chance to qualify for state. We finally had great weather, which led to several personal records and state qualifiers. Going into the meet we felt we may have several possibilities to making it to state. Although there were many heartbreaks, we also were quite pleased with all our athletes. Both the boys and girls placed fifth.
Senior Marki Cook tried to run the open 100. She pulled her hamstring about two weeks ago and wanted to try and run again. She was doing really well and was out in the lead when it pulled again, she was real classy though and finished the race instead of walking off the track.
The boys’ 4×800-meter relay was an incredible race. Every runner ran a personal best and had incredible splits.
Girls’ results:
100 — Kathryn Doll 1st 13.20 (qualified)
800 — Annie Cook 15th 3.02 (PR)
100 hurdles — Randia Rule 10th 19.33 (PR), Mandi Cornelius 14th 20.11 (PR)
