MEEKER | The Meeker Town Board of Trustees held a brief regular meeting Tuesday in which they approved the preliminary step toward annexing property east of town along Hwy. 13 that currently houses Valley Hardware and the former BLM building. There will be an April 3 public hearing on the annexation.
The trustees also approved the renewal of a 3.2 beer liquor license for Watt’s Ranch Market, and renewed the annual Ute Park lease agreement with the Meeker Classic.
Classic director Maym Cunningham thanked the town for their help, and shared statistics about the annual event. “We had a new app this year for tracking our attendance, we had 6,700 come through for the trials.”
According to the statistics, the Meeker Classic consistently brings in spectators who stay in town for 2-3.5 days and participate in two to three additional activities outside the Classic. According to their figures, the Classic generates between $750,000 and $900,000 for the community.
“We’re trying to bring people downtown and help local businesses,” a said. This year they added an art, wine and cheese event and the Jammin’ Lamb Festival. “People came for the Jammin’ Lamb Cookoff,” she said, “Without knowing anything about the Classic. It could be huge.”
This year’s trials will be held Sept. 5-9.
Kelby Bosshardt with Better City said they will be developing the consulting firm’s 2018 work plan to include suggestions and direction received from the town and county.
