MEEKER I The Town of Meeker board of trustees discussed several revisions to the proposed Meeker Municipal Code ordinance at its meeting July 5 and ended up approving all but one proposed change.
Meeker Police Chief Bob Hervey requested a change to the language of the OHV provision to prohibit non-licensed motorcycles.
Hervey was not in attendance, but Town Administrator Scott Meszaros stated Hervey had been receiving noise complaints due to some underage drivers “taking advantage” of Meeker’s OHV-friendly stance.
The board felt the wording of the provision made for a “sticky wicket,” as Trustee Rod Gerloff put it, and ultimately decided to table the proposed change until Hervey could present his concerns in person.
The board did vote to repeal registration of large animals as well as amended the code text dealing with weeds and grass, mowing and snow.
Trustees also approved a resolution to support an application for the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Main Street Program.
According to DOLA’s website, the Main Street Program “assists local governments, downtown organizations and communities through a process that helps organize community needs and ideas so they result in a strategic plan to work from.”
Meeker Chamber of Commerce Director Stephanie Kobald is spearheading the application process for Meeker to become a candidate community.
The board also approved a liquor license for the Wagon Wheel OHV Rendezvous slated to take place this weekend.
As of July 5, more than 100 participants had registered—an all time high for the event—and coordinators expect that number to keep growing as the event nears.
