MEEKER I At the Oct. 20 regular board meeting, Town Administrator Sharon Day asked Meeker’s Board of Trustees to consider a temporary mill levy decrease for next year. Due to increased property tax valuations, the town expects an increase of $66,000 in property taxes next year.
“It’s probably insignificant for home owners. Not so insignificant for commercial property owners,” Day said.
The board has the option to reduce the scheduled mill levy increase and take the extra from the town’s reserve fund to balance the budget. That decision will be made Nov. 17 in conjunction with the 2010 budget meeting.
“Everyone’s valuation went up, so it’s not just our mill levy that’s going to increase taxes next year,” Day added.
Trustee Todd Gerloff asked if there was a time frame for the Meeker Sanitation District to complete the project they’ve been working on that has resulted in multiple detours for residents. Gerloff said he heard a citizen complain about the condition the roads were left in. According to Day, the project should be nearing completion.
The trustees met in a workshop format after the regular board meeting to discuss the decision-making process for the future of the existing elementary school site, Ute Road and trails construction.
