MEEKER I The Meeker High School football team was the host of the annual Cowboy Kickoff Classic golf tournament, and the Cowboys will open the season Friday on the road in Ault against the Highland Huskies.
“This time of year is always exciting; our kids are a year older and stronger,” Meeker’s head football coach Shane Phelan said. “School has started and we’ll have 10 days of practice in before playing Friday.”
Eight, four-person teams played in the fun Cowboy Kickoff Classic golf tournament, which was won by Danielle Feola, Larin Crase, Lex Collins and Jill Massey.
“It was a great fundraiser, we simply got beat by a better team,” said Chip Brown, who, along with Dan Ilgen, Andy Coryell and Ryan Phelan, finished third. “I am proud of the effort we made for our community football team.”
Coach Phelan was appreciative of the community’s support for the event and his team.
“We had a good turnout and we are thankful for the support of everyone who played and we are grateful for the support of our local businesses,” coach Phelan said. “Our community is certainly something to be thankful for.”
