MEEKER I More than 250 peewee wrestlers from the Western Slope and western Utah, competed in the Casey Turner Memorial tournament last Saturday in Meeker High School’s gymnasium.
Thirty-five wrestlers from Meeker competed in the annual tournament, which featured tough competition, as Meeker only crowned two champions: Wyatt Pfau and Caleb Bradford.
Kelton Turner, Jesus Holland-Gonzalez, Garret Frantz, Dillon Frantz, Tannen Kennedy and Austin Russell all wrestled in the championship match but finished second.
Elijah LeBlanc, Jeffery Cole, Jame Amick, Brayden Garcia and Jacob Pelloni were all consolation champs in their respective brackets. Cole will be out for the season after breaking his arm in an accident at home.
Zagar Brown, Tevin Pelloni, Kesston Hobbs, Doak Mantle, Sam Alldredge, Joshua Cochran, Ashdan Seibert, Kascia Cochran and Colton Wille all finished fourth.
Jared Owens, Matt Goss, Anthony Holland-Gonzalez, Daylon Nielsen, Trevor Larson, Anna Castle, Branden Benitez, Connor Padilla, Cade Blunt, Trae Kennedy, Tanner Ridgeway, Chayton Bumguardner and Aaron Cochran all participated but did not place.
Several Meeker wrestlers will compete in De Beque on Saturday as the Parachute tournament was moved because of work being completed at Grand Valley High School. Rangely will host the final tournament of the season May 1.
