MEEKER I The weather continued to cooperate Saturday as the Meeker High School cross-country boys participated in the Basalt Invitational with the boys finishing sixth overall.
Held at Crown Mountain Park, the course was a mix of grass, dirt trails, and sidewalks. The grass at the start was thick and slow, and a number of sharp turns on the course certainly slowed the pace a bit. However, the boys had a good showing anyway.
Marshal Pool led the squad this week, with a 10th-place finish at 18:01. Austin Russell earned a medal as well, at 18:28, good for a 13th-place finish.
Anthony Watt was Meeker’s third finisher, with a 34th place overall and a time of 19:57. Josh Cochran was close behind in 37th place, crossing the line in 20:11. Clay Anderson was MHS’s fifth runner to finish, in 55th place, having posted a 21:19 time, and Christopher Strate completed the course in 60th place with a time of 21:47.
“We are still dealing with some injuries on the girls’ side, but hope to have them back for our next meet,” coach Casey Martin said.
The long distance runners will travel to the Gypsum Golf Course for the Eagle Valley Invitational on Saturday, with the boys’ racing starting the action at 10 a.m.
