MEEKER | The FFA program put on Horseshoes for Hope Feb. 9 in the Meeker High School lobby during the basketball games. Horseshoes for Hope was a fundraiser designed to raise money for Kris Casey. Casey was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago and is in treatment. The FFA program made projects out of horseshoes in the Ag shop such as a boot rack, napkin holder, jewelry holder and many more. They set up their projects in the main lobby and held a silent auction that ended during halftime of the boys’ basketball games. The program was able to raise $404 in sales and $100 in donations, giving them a total of $505 raised. Fifteen percent of the money raised will be going to a breast cancer charity of their choice.
“Overall I think the student-led event was very successful. All items, advertisements and communication was completed by kind, dedicated students that wanted to give back to a very impactful member of our community. I’m very proud,” said FFA advisor Denee Chintala.
The chapter is ecstatic about the amount of money raised for Casey. The people who made this event possible include Emily Beene, Derek Neilson and Allie Willey. The chapter would like to thank Connie Nelson, Levi Dinwiddie, Jody May, Rich Parr, Kim Rule, Teresa Anderson, Bobby Gutierrez and Stacey Hudelson for buying all their projects. Casey has impacted the lives of the students who participated in one way or another, and they are proud to be able to give back.
