MEEKER — Members of Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue gathered Saturday, March 8 to celebrate 75 years of service to the community.
Fire Chief Steve Allen welcomed everyone to the banquet. The happy hour was expertly attended to by members of the Meeker Lions Club, who donated their services for the event.
Retired honorary member Bud Miles gave the blessing before the staff of Ma Famiglia served dinner.
Afterward, EMS Captain Kris Borchard handed out service awards to the EMTs present. Joy Allen and Sharon Clark received EMT of the year awards as well.
Then Chief Allen presented the service awards with Joe Larson taking home the fireman of the year icicle.
Chief Allen made a special point of thanking the spouses and employers who allow volunteers to be gone for extended periods to help the community.
Brice Glasscock made the program which everyone enjoyed, with Colowyo Coal Company supplying the color printing. The lovely cake for the traditional cake cutting ceremony was made this year by Vicky Crawford.
After the oldest and newest fireman cut the cake everyone enjoyed the music and dancing supplied by Shawn Covert until midnight.
