Meeker lost to Paonia on Friday then Cedaredge on Saturday.
The lady Cowboys will only have one game this week, as they travel to Paonia on Friday.
“Those two teams are ranked in the top 10 for a reason,” Meeker coach Greg Chintala said of Paonia, currently ranked No. 2, and Cedaredge, currently ranked No. 4.
Meeker lost 74-23 to Paonia, then 57-30 to Cedaredge.
“This might be one of the best squads Paonia has ever had,” Chintala said.
The Eagles “came out hard,” according to Coach Chintala, and Meeker fell behind by 22 at then end of the first quarter, letting the margin widen to 37 back at halftime
Meeker played Cedaredge a little closer, but the Cowboys fell behind early and never came back.
“I was still proud of our girls for diving on the floor after loose balls and playing hard until the end,” Chintala said. “They kept playing and not scoreboard watching, trying to learn on each possession. Our effort is coming along good and it will pay off for us in the long run.”
Eight of 10 players scored against the Eagles, including Megan Shelton, Halle Ahrens and Kassie Luce, who all finished with four points.
Peyton Burke made a three-pointer while Anna Walsh, Maggie Phelan, Sierra Williams and Gracie Bradfield each made a basket against the Eagles.
Against the Bruins, Burke and Anna Walsh led the team with six points each and Jenna Walsh added five while Phelan and Ahrens each added four.
Meeker will travel to Paonia on Friday to play the Eagles again.
“We’ll come up with an adjusted game plan and hopefully do better than the last time,” coach Chintala said.
