Meeker girls split at volleyball tourney

MEEKER I The Lady Cowboys’ volleyball team opened the season last week with tournament play and won as many matches as they lost.
“It was a great start to our season,” Atwood said.
The host team of the Glenwood Springs tournament beat in two games (25-21 and 25-5) in the first match of the season last Friday. The Lady Cowboys regrouped and came back to defeat West Grand in two games, 25-16 and 25-22, and finished their pool play with a two-game win against Nucla.
Grand Junction defeated Rangely in the first match of Pool B, before winning against Denver Christian and Glenwood Springs JV to advance to the championship match against the home team.
With losses only to the finalists, Meeker and Rangely would play for the consolation championship of the preseason tournament.
