MEEKER I School hadn’t started but the 2010 golf season for Meeker High School had.
Coach Klark Kindler and his team opened the season in Grand Valley last week and improved their scores in Grand Junction Aug. 17.
“We are young and still learning the game right now, but I’m pleased with the numbers,” Kindler said of his eight team members, none of whom are seniors.
Trey Morris, Hunter Fellows, Dalton Rholl, Joey Scherbarth and Cody McLaughlin all opened the season in Grand Valley. Tour of the five played at Tierra Rado on Aug. 17 and all lowered their scores.
Morris took five strokes off his Grand Valley score and led the young Cowboys with an 81 in Grand Junction. Fellows shot an even 100, 18 shots better than the opening tournament. Rholl took nine less shots and McLaughlin five in Grand Junction.
“We showed lots of improvement,” Kindler said.
John Mac Sheridan, Ty Sheppard and J.J. Wyatt are also out for the team.
The Cowboys will play in a total of 10 tournaments, including one this week in Rifle, before the state-qualifying regional tournament.
