Meeker’s cross country team traveled to Grand Junction for the Tiger Invitational on Friday, Sept. 9. Canyon View Park hosted four races: varsity and JV races for boys and girls. The varsity girls started the day and Meeker’s Julia Eskelson ran a 21:58 for a 10th place medal. Briar Meszaros crossed the line in 25:03, 45th of 74 runners. The boys’ varsity followed, with Austin Russell leading the Meeker team in 17:31 and fifth place. Tannen Kennedy was the second runner in 55th place at 19:58, and Josh Cochran finished right behind him at 20:16 at 56th. Clay Anderson was the fourth runner in, 72nd at 21:47. Meeker’s fifth scorer was Pake Burke, with a 22:01, 75th place finish. Christopher Strate rounded out the team, crossing the line in 24:18 for 78th place. The JV races followed, and Lacey Ford represented Meeker in the girls’ division, finishing in 32:00 for 35th place. Meeker had three boys in the JV race: freshman Josh Dinwiddie finished his first race in 30:47 and 82nd place, followed by Alex Murray in 84th place at 32:17 and Zach Harman in 35:50 and 85th place. “We saw some great competition and some very solid running from our whole squad. We are looking to keep it up for our next meet, and throughout the season,” coach Marty Casey said. Meeker travels to the Gypsum Creek Golf Course this weekend for the Eagle Valley Invitational, with races beginning at 10 a.m.
