Meeker holiday festivities begin Saturday; parade Wednesday

MEEKER I The Christmas holiday shopping season officially begin in Meeker on Saturday as the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and several local businesses host its annual “Shop Local on Small Business Saturday” event.

Stephanie Kobald, executive director of the Meeker chamber, said, “We are encouraging folks to shop locally on Small Business Saturday. We have a number of businesses that will be open that day and the specials they are offering. These businesses will have “Small Business Saturday” free gifts to hand out while supplies last, including shopping bags, pens, pet bandanas, buttons, etc.
“It is important to support our local merchants this time of year and we at the chamber would like to request that local shoppers check out what the local merchants have to offer before shopping elsewhere,” she said. “I believe our residents will find some pretty good deals on large and small items.”
Special deals being offered include:
Phone Zone: Lifeproof cases, headphones, bluetooth speakers, Otterbox and certain accessories between 20 and 50 percent off.
Hollidays’ Bar and Grill: Lunch and dinner specials. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Kacey’s Closet: 50 percent off everything storewide. Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meeker Auto Parts/NAPA: Jumpstart for snowmobiles, toys for kids, tools, floor mats, cordless power tools, cell phone boosters, CB radios, gift certificates, truck bedliners, car detail kits, towing accessories, mechanics’ gloves, jacks and jack stands, air fresheners, snowmobile accessories and ATV accessories. Open 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Northwest Auto: Open 8 a.m. to noon.
Ma Famiglia: 10 percent off if you mention Small Business Saturday. Open 11 am. To 9 p.m.
McGuire Auto Parts: $5 gift cards with $50 purchase. Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ol’ Crows Beer and Beverage: Stock up on great spirits for the holidays.
Restored Grace: On Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 20 percent off regularly priced merchandise, excluding consigned items. Also $5 “Merry Moolah” coupons to the first 10 customers.
Meeker General Mercantile: Huge clothing sale and lots of holiday gifts. Open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meeker Cafe: Enjoy chili and soup buffet, all you can eat for $6. Open 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m..
Wendll’s Wondrous Things: Friday and Saturday—Open house at new location on Market Street. Thirty (30) percent off everything. “Food Bank Sale”—receive a percentage off for each item you bring in for the food bank. Saturday at 1 p.m., join friends for a game of chess!
Meeker Drugs: Specialty drinks and gifts. Open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mexican House: Taco bar for $6.50 per person. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Upstairs Gallery: There will be 30 percent discounts on all framed paintings in the gallery, located on the second floor of the Hugus Building.
The next event on the Meeker holiday schedule is the annual Parade of Lights, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Meeker on Wednesday.
In addition to the parade on Wednesday evening, there will be the lighting of the town Christmas tree, the Meeker Elementary School choir will perform and there will be a decorated wreath sale as well as caroling.
Fireworks will follow the organized festivities.
Prizes and awards will be given for for the top floats in the parade, including the “It’s a Wonderful Life” award, the “Clark Griswold” award for the brightest float, and there will be a Santa’s Elves’ Choice award.
