RBC I Seven 8-10-year-old baseball teams, including three from Rio Blanco County, played in a tournament last weekend, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District. Each team was guaranteed four games. One team from Meeker and another from Rangely qualified for the final four, played Sunday last but neither made the championship game.
“This tournament was to get the kids more play time,” tournament organizer Trudi Burri said. “I think everybody appreciated us having it.”
Meeker 2 defeated Hayden and DeBeque but lost to Professional Painting of Craig and the Colorado River Lions, of Silt/New Castle. The Colorado River Lions defeated Professional Painting in the championship game to win the tournament.
The Meeker Rockies defeated Hayden and DeBeque, tied with Rangely and lost to the champions in pool play. Rangely also beat DeBeque and Hayden and lost a tie-breaker to the Meeker Rockies, advancing them to the final four as the No. 4 seed, where they lost to the Colorado River Lions. Meeker lost to Professional Painting in the semifinals.
“I think the kids were all worn out,” Burri said.
