MEEKER — April Fool’s Day is coming up Tuesday. It’s a good day to give yourself a gullibility test: Do you believe everything you see, hear or read?
Personal favorite? In 1998, Burger King ran an ad in “USA Today,” announcing the introduction of the left-handed Whopper. The condiments were designed to drip out of the right side. Customers immediately began requesting the new burgers, and some specifically requested the “old”, right-handed burger. Are we truly so foolish?
Some of the most famous April Fool’s hoaxes have been played on the populace by mass media organizations. With the Internet and so-called “viral video” it appears we have the opportunity to be “fooled” by the average Joe any day of the week!
If you’d like to check out some of the things you tend to assume are factual, like those wretched e-mail hoaxes that continue to be propagated by well-meaning folks, visit www.snopes.com for an unusually thorough listing of some “fish tales” you may have swallowed as fact.
You might be a bit red in the face when you’re finished reading!
We’d like to send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Justin Jacob, who is recuperating at Craig Hospital, which is not in Craig, Colo., as one might assume. One of the best rehabilitation hospitals in the country, Craig Hospital is located on the Front Range.
Wish a happy anniversary this week to Bob and Bonnie Carden, Grant and Betty Nielson and Jim and Pat McFarland, March 29.
Happy birthday to Nathan Turk, Bonnie Nielson and Connie Jones, March 27; Sheridan Harvey and Kim Rule, March 31; Mike Knezovich and Lois Richardson, April 1; Cameron Stranathan and Doris Walters, April 2; Kimberly Devereaux and Jesse Farnlof, April 3.
Are you or your family members missing from this list? Please send us your family’s special dates — anniversaries, birthdays, etc. — so we can celebrate with you! Send info to [email protected], or mail items to P.O. Box 720, Meeker, Colo., 81641.
