Besides the proliferation of skunks, porcupines and rabbits out and about, the robins are back. Spring, which officially begins this weekend, may have actually sprung. But whatever you do, don’t put away your boots and hats and mittens yet. Around here, that’s as much of a guarantee for a spring blizzard as washing your car will bring rain.
Saturday is the vernal equinox. No, that has nothing to do with the city of Vernal, Utah. At 11:32 a.m. MST the sun will cross directly over the earth’s equator. The hours of daylight and darkness will be approximately equal in length all over the world.
March, by the way, is Women’s History Month. New Zealand was the first country to grant women’s suffrage — the right to vote. The United Arab Emirates granted suffrage in 2006. American women won the right to vote in 1920, following the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
