The summer that was so reluctant to arrive is now dragging its feet about leaving. Fall officially starts this week, but with temperatures still in the 80s and 90s, it feels more like mid-summer. The leaves are changing at higher elevations, however, so take advantage of the nice weather to get up in the high country for a look at Colorado’s glorious fall colors.
Friday, Sept. 24 is the first day of National Dog Week. Take your pooch for a walk or something!
It’s also Banned Books Week. In the last decade, books as popular and diverse as the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold (recently made into a film), and classics as enduring as Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee have been challenged and/or banned at various library districts. For more information on banned books, visit www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/ and click on the banned and challenged books tab.
