Meeker Locals

I n 44 A.D. a seer warned Julius Caesar to “beware the ides of March!” Shakespeare’s play made the phrase famous.
So what are “ides”? The Romans referred to the 15th day of March, May, July and October as the ides of that month. For the rest of the months, the ides of the month were on the 13th.
Caesar should have paid more attention to the seer. On March 15 more than 60 of Rome’s government officials conspired to assassinate their leader, stabbing him more than 23 times right in the Roman Senate. And we thought our politics were getting ugly.
Continued best wishes for a full recovery to John Jacob, injured in an ATV accident in Montrose in February. According to reports, he is still in the hospital, but was able to come off the ventilator last week.
Happy birthday today, March 10, to Ginny Love and Janet Hayes. Other birthdays this week: Meredith Deming, Jeri Gilchrist, Helen Stranathan and Tom Cisar, March 11; Lisa Darrow, Jerrie Calkins and Dale Dunbar, March 12; Caitlin Walker, Mandy Jensen, Kaycee Sullivan, Tara Cojucaru and Luke Purcell, March 13; Zack Clatterbaugh, March 14; Sharon Cook, March 15; Trina Smith and Tim Uphoff, March 16.
Happy anniversary to Matt and Brandy Giao, March 10; Harold and Pat Tidwell, March 12; James and Lori Tafoya, March  16; and David and Jan Henderson, March 16.
