MEEKER — Good luck to all the 4-H and FFA members headed to the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.
For your oddball news this week: scientists have discovered a gene that appears to control the aging process in mice. By turning off the gene, the aged skin of the mice returned to a youthful state within two weeks. The story sparks a question: how do you know when a mouse has wrinkles?
Speaking of wrinkles … it’s time for our weekly birthday list!
Happy birthday today, Aug. 21, to James Tyler. Yesterday was his great-granddaughter Day-ona’s birthday. We wish them both well.
Happy birthday Aug. 24 to Rogers Meredith, pastor of Christ Reformed Church.
Also celebrating birthdays this week are Bev Brennan, DeeAnna Vandiver, Aug. 21; Phyllis Wigington, Aug. 22; Sandy Scherbarth, Dolly Viscardi and Mariah Jensen, Aug. 23; Logan Kinnamon, Aug. 24; Marty Jensen and Thane Stranathan, Aug. 25; Levi Pakuer, Aug. 26; Donna Palmer and Mitch Jacob, Aug. 27.
Happy anniversary to Troy and Rhonda Hilkey, David and Rick Buckles on Aug. 21; Larry and Sandra Johnson, Aug. 22.
Don’t miss the annual ecumenical church picnic this Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24 on the lawn between the Methodist and Catholic churches. Ecumenical, for those who may have forgotten, is defined as “belonging to the whole Christian church,” so all denominations are invited to participate. The burgers, hot dogs and fixins’ are provided by the churches. Everyone attending is asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.
For all the kiddos and teachers headed back to school, we hope this is your best year yet! The new school year always brings an atmosphere of excitement with it. Even for those who have been out of school for years and years! Don’t forget, watch for students biking and walking to and from school, and be prepared to stop for school buses!
Are you or your family members missing from this list? Is our information obsolete? Please send us your family’s special dates — anniversaries, birthdays, etc. — so we can celebrate with you! Send info to [email protected], or mail items to P.O. Box 720, Meeker, Colo., 81641.
