MEEKER — Good luck to all the 4-H and FFA members headed to the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.
For your oddball news this week: scientists have discovered a gene that appears to control the aging process in mice. By turning off the gene, the aged skin of the mice returned to a youthful state within two weeks. The story sparks a question: how do you know when a mouse has wrinkles?

Don’t miss the annual ecumenical church picnic this Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24 on the lawn between the Methodist and Catholic churches. Ecumenical, for those who may have forgotten, is defined as “belonging to the whole Christian church,” so all denominations are invited to participate. The burgers, hot dogs and fixins’ are provided by the churches. Everyone attending is asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.
For all the kiddos and teachers headed back to school, we hope this is your best year yet! The new school year always brings an atmosphere of excitement with it. Even for those who have been out of school for years and years! Don’t forget, watch for students biking and walking to and from school, and be prepared to stop for school buses!
