MEEKER — Somebody somewhere has paid researchers to study satellite photos of thousands of cows worldwide. Their conclusion? Cattle seem to spontaneously align their bodies in a north-south direction when resting or grazing. Apparently, when the cows come home, it’s because they have a sense of direction. No GPS required. Who pays for this stuff, anyway?

Report is the leaves are starting to turn upriver, so schedule an afternoon drive for yourself to get out and enjoy the pleasant weather while we still have it. According to the Farmers’ Almanac, we’re in for “icy temperatures” in a couple months. Yippee.
