Meeker

Meeker Locals: July 24, 2008

MEEKER — The Meeker skyline is changing again with the addition of the new hotel on Market Street. It’s always amazing how slow the building process is when it comes to the foundation, and how fast those walls go up in comparison! We do have a skyline, right? Or is it a treeline?
There have been a few grumbles from locals and out-of-towners about the closure of Sleepy Cat. New owner Bob Regulski does not intend to re-open the lodge or restaurant. It’s always a shock to go out of town and meet people who’ve never even stopped to use a restroom in Meeker’s downtown but were regular visitors to Sleepy Cat. It’s quite a blow.
Greg Norman, owner of Seven Lakes Lodge and the Pollard Ranch for more than a decade, took third place at the British Open this month. That’s golf, folks. He’s known as “The Great White Shark” on the links. Never know who you might run into at Watt’s Ranch Market.
Randy and Debra Hall have had summer visitors. Daughter Stephanie from Montgomery, Texas, visited for a week in June. Debra’s mom, Helen Maynard of Oroville, Calif., arrived June 12 for her yearly visit. Helen celebrated her 82nd birthday on July 16. Debra’s daughter Shannon and oldest grandson, Dusty, came from Texas July 11 for a three-day visit.
Birthday babies this week include Madison Kindler, who turns 6 on July 25. Also celebrating a July 25 birthday is Steven Kinnamon and Mick Mobley. Happy birthday to Kirstie Smith and Christopher Strate, July 26; Sarah Miller, July 27; Kim Cook, Dakota Giao, Florence Klein, Katie Conrado and Solveig Olson, July 28; Sandra Hamilton, Patty Wyatt and Susan Knezovich, July 30; Katie Coufas and Patti Hoke, July 31.
Happy anniversary to Kevin and Edye Posey, July 25; Bob and Sharon Cook, and Fain and Nancy Richardson, July 26; Curll and Linda Kline, July 28.
