Meeker Locals: June 12, 2008

MEEKER — There are two holidays this weekend. Flag Day is Saturday, June 14 and Father’s Day is Sunday, June 15 this year.
Flag Day — the anniversary of the official adoption of the Stars and Stripes — was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and designated on June 14 by President Truman in 1949. Incidentally, persons who study flags are called vexillologists.
While Father’s Day is celebrated around the world in various cultures, it was established as a permanent national observance in the United States by President Nixon in 1972. The rose is the official flower of Father’s Day — red if your father is living, white if he has passed away.
The winner of the tanning package from The Tan Line in Meeker was Amy Thayer, and the winner of the hair care products from Rocky Mountain Hairbenders was Haley McKay.
