MEEKER I The Meeker Magic, an 8-10-year-old girls softball team, defended their league title, by winning three games and the league title Saturday last, in Basalt.“This is the second year in a row for this team,” coach Janae Shelton, who along with her father Dave Cole and sister Jen George, coach the young ballplayers.The Meeker Magic finished with a record of 11-1, with the only loss coming earlier in the season.“They only lost one game all season and that was to New Castle but they beat them 3-2 Saturday,” Shelton said.The Meeker Magic defeated Eagle in the first round of the tournament 13-2 to face New Castle in the semifinals.“The game against New Castle was the most exciting and all the girls played outstanding and heads-up ball,” Shelton said of the 3-2 semifinal game.The win advanced the Meeker Magic to the championship game against Parachute, which Meeker won 5-2.
